A Special Benefit for Households Exempt from Resident’s Tax

Due to the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new benefit has been established for households exempt from resident’s tax to ensure that people facing various difficulties can speedily receive support for their everyday lives.

  Eligibility How to Apply Required Documents

Tax-Exempt Households
As of the reference date (December 10, 2021), all household members* are exempt from per capita tax for resident’s tax during FY2021. On February 3, households eligible for this benefit were mailed confirmation letters with their financial account information printed on them. Please fill in the required information and send the confirmation letter and required documents back. You can also apply online. For more information, please read the confirmation letter. <If you want to have the benefit sent to an account other than the one printed on the confirmation letter>
1. Official documentation verifying the identification of the head of your household
A copy of his/her driver’s license, health insurance card, or passport.
2. Documentation that shows your bank account information
A copy of your bankbook or cash card that shows the name of the financial institution, the branch office code, the account number, and the account holder’s name.

Households with a sudden drop in the household income
Households other than ①tax-exempt households whose household income has suddenly dropped due to the effects of COVID-19, and households that are recognized as being the same as Category ① households.

Application must be filed by the applicant himself/herself. The application form can be downloaded from the Shinagawa City website. If it is difficult for you to download the application, please consult the call center.

3. Application form for households with a sudden drop in household income
4. Documentation showing the income situation of a chosen month between January 2021 and the month of application (for all household members)
5. A copy of your resident registration listing all household members (with family relations; without permanent address or individual numbers written)

Note: In some cases, documents other than the ones mentioned above are required. Please inquire for more details.

* This excludes cases in which all household members are claimed as dependents of relatives who are subject to resident’s tax.

Benefit amount: 100,000 yen per household
Application deadline:
① May 6, 2022 (Fri.); must be postmarked by this date
② September 30, 2022 (Fri.); must be postmarked by this date
