Field Hockey

Venue: Shinagawa City
Dates : Saturday, July 25 to Friday, August 7
Location :Oi Hockey Stadium, Oi Central Seaside Park (4-1 Yashio)

Twelve men’s teams and twelve women’s teams are set to compete in the Olympic field hockey event. Each side consists of a goalkeeper and ten field players, and they play on a field a bit smaller than a soccer field. The players use sticks, and when they shoot the ball can travel at speeds of 150 kilometers per hour or even faster. The tactics that unfold in front of the goals are especially thrilling.

Beach Volleyball

Venue: Shinagawa City
Dates : Saturday, July 25 to Saturday, August 8
Location :Shiokaze Park (1 Higashi-Yashio)

Twenty-four men’s teams and an equal number of women’s teams are scheduled to compete in beach volleyball. Teams of two play on courts slightly smaller than those for indoor volleyball with nets anchored in the sand. Since the court environment changes due to the direction of the wind and sunlight, the players must alter their strategies according to the elements, which is fascinating.

Football 5-a-side (blind football)

Dates : Sunday, August 30 to Saturday, September 5
Location :Aomi Urban Sports Park (1 Aomi, Koto City)

Teams of five players play on a court about the same size as those used for futsal. They use a special ball that makes sound when it rolls. The players rely on others saying “voy (I go)” when they come close to a player kicking the ball, as well as the voices of the goalkeeper and guides. The games are speedy and thrilling.
