A Refreshing Oasis for Ages
Sento (Public Bath)

The sento (public bath) is a part of Japanese culture, an oasis that the common people have loved for ages that also serves as a place for friendly exchanges. Shinagawa City has 23 public baths. Why not experience the culture of the Japanese bath in a way that suits your purpose and preference, such as choosing the type of hot water and the characteristics of different facilities?

The Characteristics of Shinagawa City’s Many Public Baths

Natural hot spring
You can enjoy natural hot springs while in Shinagawa City. The hot water that springs from 100 to 200 meters underground is mainly black hot water, and is said to be rich in minerals and have various health benefits.

You can enjoy natural hot springs in the following locations:
Musashi-Koyama Onsen, Togoshi-Ginza Onsen, Miyagiyu, Kita-Shinagawa Onsen Tenjinyu, Hachimanyu, Nakanobu Onsen Matsunoyu

Medicinal bath
This refers to baths where medicinal plants and their essences are added to the hot water. The original objective was for medical purposes; today, however, medicinal baths are used to promote good health.

You can enjoy medicinal baths in the following locations:
Matsunoyu, Nakanobu Kinenyu, Shinseiyu, Hachimanyu, Hoshinoyu, Nakanobu Onsen Matsunoyu, Suehiroyu and more

Outdoor bath
Outdoor baths are made of rock or Japanese cypress, and you can soak in the hot springs while enjoying the starry sky or a Japanese garden.

You can enjoy outdoor baths at the following locations:
Musashi-Koyama Onsen, Togoshi-Ginza Onsen, Miyagiyu, Nakanobu Kinenyu, Shinseiyu, Nakanobu Onsen Matsunoyu, Peace-yu

Sento Fuji
In public baths, Mount Fuji is often painted on the wall. It is said that Mount Fuji is painted on the walls of public baths where you can see (or once could see) the famous peak. (There are various explanations about this.)

You can enjoy Sento Fuji at the following locations:
Matsunoyu, Togoshi-Ginza Onsen, Nakanobu Kinenyu, Shinseiyu, Hachimanyu, Nakanobu Onsen Matsunoyu


Common Courtesy of Public Baths

Many people use sento. Please follow the rules of common courtesy so that everyone can enjoy the bath comfortably.
● Please place your belongings and change of clothes in a locker
● Please wash your whole body before entering the bathtub
● Do not place your towel in the bathtub
● Please dry yourself off before returning to the dressing room
Note: Please be sure to read the poster that explains the rules for bathing posted at each public bath.
