Practice Common Courtesy When Taking Pet Dogs for a Walk

● Have your pet go to the bathroom at home before taking a walk
○ Urine cannot be washed away with just a little water, so take pet sheets with you.
If your dog urinates outside, absorb the urine with pet sheets and wash the area with water. This is considered common courtesy and the responsibility of the pet owner.

○ If your dog poops, always take the poop home and dispose of it there.
Always bring a bag to pick up your dog’s poop, and take it home for proper disposal.

● Be sure to keep your dog on a leash
○ Be sure to keep your dog on a leash during walks
Even though your dog may be well disciplined or small, remember that some people do not like dogs or are afraid of them.

○ Keep your dog on a short leash
Doing so will make it easier to keep your dog under control when your dog does something unexpected and prevent your pet from running into the street and possibly being hit by a car.

○ The Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinance on Animal Protection and Management says that as a rule it is prohibited to leave your dog unleashed.
You cannot let your dog off its leash to play in a park or other public area (excluding dog runs).
