The Stars of the Town That Light Up the Winter Night
 
Let’s Go See the Lights!
 

It is that time of year when illuminations beautify the city’s streets as the lights shine vividly in the crisp winter air. Shinagawa City’s elaborate light decorations use LED lights in consideration of the environment. Why not come see the dream-like scenery with shining seasonal stars of Shinagawa?

 

Oimachi Illuminations

 

Location:Oimachi Station, west and east exits
Dates:Until January 6 (Sun.)
Note:
Unitl March 31 (Sun.) for the east exit
Hours:5:00 to 11:00 p.m.

Oimachi Station area will again be the site for Oimachi Illuminations this year. About 190,000 LED lights set along Kuyakusho-dori Avenue from the west exit of the station, and the 18 zelkova trees around the west exit bus rotary, and on the pedestrian deck of the east exit of the Oimachi Station, wrapping the station in fantastic light. Shinagawa tourism mascot and ambassador Cinnamoroll will be also illuminated.
You can enjoy the illuminations in Oimachi Station’s west exit area daily until January 6, and the illuminations on the east exit pedestrian deck daily until March 31.


Megurogawa Minna-no (Everyone’s) Illuminations 2018

Location:Gotanda Fureai Waterside Square (2-9 Higashi-Gotanda) and along the Meguro River
Dates:Until January 6 (Sun.)
Hours:5:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Cherry trees along the Meguro River are decorated with cherry blossom-colored LED lights mainly at Gotanda Fureai Waterside Square, which creates the illumination called “Fuyu no Sakura” (cherry blossoms in winter). Home generators using bio-diesel fuel recycled from used kitchen oil collected by neighborhood food and beverage outlets and homes provide the power for all these LED lights. Enjoy the spectacular cherry tree illuminations that use 400,000 lights over a total length of about 2.2 kilometers.


TOKYO MEGA ILLUMINATION

Location:Oi Racecourse (2-1-2 Katsushima)
Dates:December 15 (Sat.) and 16 (Sun.); 22 (Sat.) through 24 (Mon.; holiday); 28 (Fri.); and January 12 (Sat.) through March 31 (Sun.)
Hours:Weekdays: 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays: 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Note: Admission to the park ends at 9:00 p.m.
Tickets: Same-day tickets: 18 years of age or older, 1,800 yen ; Elementary, junior high and high school students, 1,000 yen

TOKYO MEGA ILLUMINATION is the Kanto area’s biggest light festival. This “super-experience” extravaganza with the theme of Tokyo’s past, present and future features illuminations and 3D projection mapping using the latest technology on the spacious grounds of Oi Racecourse. You can experience the photogenic night scenery of Tokyo.
