Discovering the Attractive Qualities of Shinagawa!

Yashio area

Natural Greenery and an International Distribution BaseYashio district

The Yashio district, built on reclaimed land in Tokyo Bay, is a comfortable town surrounded by natural greenery and waterways that faces the Keihin Canal. The area has large housing complexes, several schools, a library and facilities for the elderly and disabled. There are spacious metropolitan parks near the housing complexes as well, such as Oi-futo Chuo-kaihin Park and Keihin-unga Ryokudo Park. Near the coast there are also industrial facilities, including the large cranes of Oi Pier, which is an international distribution base, as well as the railroad carriage base for the Tokaido bullet train.

This expansive park includes Sports Forest and Nagisa Forest.
Sports Forest boasts track and field facilities, six baseball diamonds, an artificial grass ground and tennis courts, enabling many people to enjoy sports year-round. You can also enjoy cherry blossom viewing in the Sakura Viewing Square in the spring, and your dog can play at the dog run. Seseragi Forest, located in a corner of Sports Forest, has a place to observe insects and wild birds in a pond.
Nagisa Forest is visible from Oi-Keibajo-mae Station on the Tokyo Monorail beyond the Keihin Canal. You can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the canal and also fish in this park. Since the park has both a forest and tideland, you can spot a variety of wild birds here, and there is also a wild bird observation site.

Access: About an eight-minute walk from Oi-Keibajo-mae Station.
Closed: During the year-end/New Year’s holidays.

 

Community Plaza Yashio (City Resident Activity and Exchange Facility)

Community Plaza Yashio

 

Community Plaza Yashio is an activity center designed to encourage city residents from children to the elderly to get acquainted, enjoy friendly exchanges and learn. It occupies the site of the former elementary school in Yashio Park Town. There is a music room, a sports room and a tea area. The facility can be used for group activities that enrich learning and skills, such as cultural arts, sports, and lifelong learning, including meetings, lectures and workshops as well as choral practice, dancing, ceramics, futsal, volleyball, table tennis and stretching (fees charged). You can enjoy meals and soft drinks in the tea area.

Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Closed: Second Tuesday of the month, and during the year-end/New Year’s holidays.

Access: A 12-minute walk from Oi-Keibajo-mae Station; a one minute-walk from the Yashio-minami bus stop on the Toei Bus bound for Yashio Park Town from Oimachi or Shinagawa Station; or a one-minute walk from the Oi-Shobosho-Yashio-Shuchojo bus stop on the Keikyu Bus bound for Yashio Park Town from Oimachi Station.

 

Other Parks and Facilities

Yashio Park
5-11 Yashio

Located on the east side of Yashio Community Center, this park has a play area and a multipurpose area. The multipurpose area is shared with Yashio Gakuen, which is located next to the park.

Oi-futo Ryokudo Park
5 Yashio

A long green zone is designed around a housing area. You can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the green tunnel while observing nature, and see ponds and wild birds here and there.

Bullet Train Garage

Crossing over Katsushima Bridge from Oi-Keibajo-mae Station on the Tokyo Monorail, you can see the bullet train garage from the top of the bridge beyond Yashio Park Town and the Bay Shore Route. The latest models of bullet trains are lined up in rows within the spacious property, and you may even spot a yellow bullet train called “Dr. Yellow,” the special diagnostic vehicle used to check track alignment, the quality of overhead electricity lines and more.

Minatogaoka-futo Park
3 Yashio

If you go down the slope beyond the bullet train garage, you will find this park on the left side. There is a plaza with a fountain in the center and camping facilities. Next to the park is the carriage base for Tokyo Waterfront Area Rapid Transit, Inc. If you climb the manmade mountain, you can see the gigantic cranes of Oi Pier beyond the greenery.
