Shinagawa’s Shukuba Matsuri Guided Tour Is Looking for Participants

Shinagawa’s Shukuba Matsuri is a festival to celebrate the traditions and cultural heritage of Shinagawa as the first shukuba (post station) on the Tokaido road. The festival will take place along the two-kilometer road from Yatsuyama in Kita-Shinagawa to Aomono-Yokocho in Minami-Shinagawa.
Shinagawa City will conduct guided tours for foreigners. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the atmosphere of an historic post station.

Dates and time: Until July 15 (Fri.)
September 24 (Sat.), 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The procession of oiran (courtesans) will start from Yatsuyama at 4:00 p.m.
September 25 (Sun.), 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
There will be an Edo Period costume parade from noon.
Eligibility: Foreign residents who live, work or go to school in Shinagawa City and their families; forty persons (a lottery will be held)
Languages: English, Korean, Chinese, Taiwanese, Italian and French
Nearest train stations: Keikyu Kita-Shinagawa Station or Keikyu Shinbanba Station
Fee: Free

(must be received by this date), giving your name, address, age, telephone number, occupation, desired tour date and desired language.
