Shinagawa-ku International Friendship Association (SIFA) Class

1.Japanese Language Classes for Foreign Residents
Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays, from April 19 through July 5 (total of 20 classes)
Morning Class: 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon
Afternoon Class: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Evening Class: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Courses:

  • Part 1 (for those learning Japanese for the first time) – Morning, afternoon and evening classes
  • Part 2 (for those who have studied some Japanese and can read and write hiragana and katakana) – Afternoon and evening classes
  • Part 3 (for those with everyday conversation skills) – Afternoon and evening classes

Location: Shinagawa-ku International Friendship Association
Eligibility: 18 foreign residents who live or work in Shinagawa (on a first-paid, first-served basis)
Tuition: ¥7,000 per course (textbook fee included)
Babysitting Service: Up to five preschoolers aged 3 and up.
Note: Please inquire beforehand if you would like to use the babysitting service.
Babysitting Fee: ¥5,000
2. Ikebana (Flower Arranging) Class
Dates: Fridays, from April 8 through July 8 (excluding May 6), 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. (total of 12 classes)
Location: Shinagawa-ku International Friendship Association
Eligibility: 12 foreign and 8 Japanese residents who live or work in Shinagawa (selected by lottery)
Tuition: ¥16,000
3. Home Cooking Class
Date: May 21 (Sat.), 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Location: Curian (in front of Oimachi Station)
Program: Japanese Home Cooking (dishes using milk)
Eligibility: 18 foreign and 18 Japanese residents who live or work in Shinagawa (selected by lottery)
Fee: ¥1,500
Application deadline: April 19 (Tue.) (must be received by this date)
For the Above-Mentioned Programs
To apply: Fill out an application form on SIFA’s website or apply by sending a postcard or fax (must be recieved by March 17[Thu.] for the Japanese language class and the Ikebana class). Indicate the name of the class (for Japanese classes, write down the desired class and course), your address, postal code, name (with furigana), age, sex and telephone number. Those who work in Shinagawa should also include your company name, address and telephone number. If you are a foreign resident, also include your nationality.
