In that it targets everybody living in Japan as well as all households, the Population Census is an important survey conducted every five years. On this occasion, the census will be conducted for the 20th time.
Currently, census responses are being accepted over the Internet from people using PCs and smartphones. The deadline for this method of response is September 20 (Sun.). Concerning households who do not respond via the Internet, census takers will commence home visits from September 26 (Sat.) and paper-based census forms will be distributed. Householders are requested to return the completed census forms by post. They may also be directly submitted to census takers. In addition to clarifying the population and household situation in Japan, results of the Population Census are collated to become the basic materials by which the national government and local public organizations develop a wide range of policies. We look forward to everybody’s understanding and cooperation with the Population Census.

With respect to the individuals involved in the census, each is bound by the confidentiality provisions of the Statistics Act, and all personal information is rigorously protected.
