The Sixth Shinagawa-Portland Youth Sports Exchange Program

Portland is the largest city in the U.S. state of Maine and the birthplace of Dr. Edward S. Morse, who discovered the Omori shell mounds, considered the cradle of archeology in Japan. Because of this historical link, the cities of Portland and Shinagawa have been sister cities since 1984. This year marks our sixth sports exchange program, and the youths of our two cities will strengthen our bonds of friendship by competing in two sports—baseball and basketball.
Shinagawa City will be hosting these young visitors from Portland from Monday, July 23 through Wednesday, August 1. Please come to the venue and cheer for them. For more information, please check the Shinagawa-ku International Friendship Association website (www.sifa.or.jp), which is available in English, Chinese, and Korean.
