City News Shinagawa

Message from the MayorMayor

The Great East Japan Earthquake, which struck on March 11, 2011, caused serious damage not only in the Tohoku (northeastern Japan) area but also over a wide region of the country. Even today, many people are living under difficult circumstances, and I would like to offer my deep sympathy to all those affected by that serious earthquake.
Here in Shinagawa City, we are learning from that terrible disaster and reconsidering our disaster prevention measures, working to build effective countermeasures.

I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for your support of relief efforts for the disaster-struck areas. I am moved by the help extended by people living in Japan as well as that received from the Kingdom of Thailand and various other countries around the world.

Takeshi Hamano
Mayor of Shinagawa City

Please stop for a minute of silent prayer in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the Great East Japan Earthquake.
