Company History

Merit 5 was founded in Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo, in 1987. Our establishment coincided with the launch of City Life News, an innovative English-language lifestyle periodical for foreign residents of Japan that gained us widespread support. This anticipated the rise of media oriented toward specific ethnic groups that we see today in response to the way Japan’s foreign community has changed greatly along with the times.
With the publication of City Life News, an increasing number of government agencies and official associations began asking us to create foreign-language newsletters and informational pamphlets using our know-how to provide lifestyle information to foreign residents. Furthermore, our business of producing company profiles and annual reports grew thanks to our foreign-language editorial capabilities.
We like to think that this is due to how highly valued our reportorial, editing, and data gathering capabilities are as well as the recognition of our team’s ability to provide a full range of services, from planning to translation, production, and delivery.
City Life News subsequently progressed from print media to the World Wide Web, and this led the way to our involvement in new ventures related to foreign-language Web site production.
We have relocated our office from Roppongi to Ginza by way of Shiba and are currently promoting joint projects with China as we seek new horizons in global communication.
